Quick Start

EMPSecure is simple to use. These Quick Start instructions will show you how to get up and running in no time flat!

Basic Operation

EMPSecure is simple to use and doesn’t require any special skills that you don’t already possess. In fact, if you can “Right Click” your mouse, you’re already on your way to becoming an EMPSecure Expert! The EMPSecure app can be used either with the drop down menu that you access by “right clicking” your mouse from within your EMPSecure Dropbox folders or by accessing the EMPSecure app at the top of the screen or from the EMPSecure Icon in the Applications Folder.

Encrypting Your EMPSecure Dropbox Folders

EMPSecure is designed to secure the data in your Dropbox account that you choose to encrypt. Securing your data means using EMPSecure’s sophisticated military grade encryption - but adding this encryption is easy!

Because you control the encryption, no one, not even EMPSecure, can access your data - just you!

Open Your EMPSecure Dropbox Folder by Opening Finder

Access your EMPSecure Dropbox folder by selecting Finder in the toolbar at the bottom of your screen. The following window will open, showing the EMPSecure Dropbox folder at the top of the list on the left side. On the right side, you’ll see the contents of the EMPSecure Dropbox folder:

  1. The first blue folder in the image above, called EMPSecureFolders, is automatically created for you and is already encrypted. Any file you place into that folder will automatically be encrypted as well.

  2. You may also place folders into the EMPSecureFolders location, and all of those folders will inherit the state of the parent location: if it is encrypted, so will they be; if it is unencrypted, they will be too, by default.

  3. The second blue folder icon, called MyEMPSecureFolders, was created for the Quick Start Menu to serve as an example of how EMPSecure works, as you’ll see below.

Add Encryption to Your Folder

EMPSecure uses the right click drop down menu to give you the ability to encrypt and decrypt folders.

  1. Select the folder you wish to encrypt. In this case, we’ve selected the new folder we’ve created, “MyEMPSecureFolders.”

  2. Right click while the cursor is on the folder you wish to encrypt.

  3. Navigate to the EMPSecure Option in the drop down menu and highlight it. The Encrypt Function (and “Find All Encrypted Subfolders Under”) is displayed.

  4. Click on Encrypt.

Left click on Encrypt to begin the EMPSecure encryption process.

EMPSecure will post progress update messages and a progress bar as the encryption process is taking place.

Success!

Once your folder is successfully encrypted, you’ll see the following message:

Please note that old, unencrypted versions of your files may be stored on your cloud provider’s servers, in the archive of deleted versions. You may have to go to the Dropbox website to delete them.

What Encryption Looks Like

So what does an encrypted file actually look like? To you, it looks just like your normal file. To everyone else, however, all they’ll see is gibberish.
